Thanks to the families who attended Reading Under the Lights in the DHS gym. Families enjoyed a guest reader, Dori Leist, free books, and snacks. A special thank you to the high school students who volunteered for the evening - it was a great night for everyone!
Reminder: Picture Retakes are Tuesday, October 20th. Students who missed picture day or need a retake should bring a picture packet with payment, or their original pictures to turn in. Retakes begin first thing in the morning on Tuesday.
The DIS/DUES campus participated in The Great Shakeout Drill. This drill reinforces how to stay safe during an Earthquake and was conducted across the entire state of Wyoming. Safety drills are held once a month in order to practice keeping students and staff safe.
The Masonic Lodge of Douglas presented the Douglas Intermediate School 3rd Graders with their own dictionaries. The students were excited to have their own dictionary to take home. A special thanks to Mr. Al Pierce and Mr. Donald York for the special presentation.

DHS Front Gym. A guest speaker will read a book, families will receive free books, and cookies. Due to the weather, this activity has been moved from the football field to the DHS front gym.
On Friday, each grade held a kickball tournament to celebrate homecoming and to mark their achievement of the reading goal.

Fifth graders in Ms. Harrington's class are authoring books and then sharing their work with their classmates. Great job to these young authors!
Check out the 3rd graders learning all about maps during social studies. Mrs. Hodgs is teaching social studies standards during library time. This way, students learn about non-fiction by reading about it in the library.
These students are using Reader's Theater to accelerate their reading during the Tier 2 Reading block at DIS. They get to read lines, practice adding voice, and have fun reading short plays and stories.
Going Gold! DIS/DUES staff and students have been Going Gold all throughout the month of September, and especially stepping it up last week. From collecting coins to wearing as much yellow and gold as possible, our students and staff have shown their support. All money raised throughout the week will be donated to Douglas Strong to support families within our community. Thanks for supporting this great cause.
September was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. We must continue to come together and support the brave kids fighting cancer every day. Their strength and courage remind us how important it is to stand together as a community.
